I used to think those heat pump water heaters were a waste of money

A homeowner in Portland asked me to install one of those hybrid Rheem units last fall and I tried to talk them out of it. Honestly I was dead wrong - their electric bill dropped by about 45 bucks a month compared to the old resistance heater. What finally got me was seeing the data myself over 6 months, the thing just works. Anyone else had a project where you changed your mind after seeing real numbers?

Man oh man, you hit the nail on the head with this one. I was totally the same way - thought those heat pump units were just another expensive gimmick. Then my buddy put one in his basement and showed me his electric bills side by side. It was like night and day, saved like 60 bucks a month in the winter. Now I'm actually looking into getting one for my own place, feels weird to admit I was so wrong. The data really does speak for itself once you see it.

My neighbor was the one who convinced me too, @lisat60. I saw his setup and he walked me through the numbers, and my jaw dropped. The savings were real, like 50 bucks a month for him in the winter. I was honestly embarrassed I thought it was a scam for so long. It's wild how much cheaper it is to run than my old furnace. Now I'm really glad I listened and didn't just write it off.
