Used to laugh at guys who bid by the square foot instead of estimating materials...

Last month I bid a bathroom remodel my usual way and came up $400 short on tile. A buddy told me his square foot method and I ran the numbers on my last three jobs... he was dead on. Has anyone else switched their estimating approach after getting burned?

So did you add a buffer before or after you started using that method?

Yeah I switched to square foot pricing after I got burned on a paver patio. Lost like 600 bucks on the base prep because I underestimated the gravel. Now I just use that method for everything and add a little buffer.
