Had a main hoist cable snap on a 40 ton job in Spokane last Tuesday, and I think the standard inspection schedule is too lax.

Yeah, we had a similar thing happen on a smaller rig last month. The inspection cards are a joke.

Seriously? It's just a piece of paper. Most of the time the gear is fine, people just forget to sign the card. Making a big deal over a missed checkbox seems like overkill.

That's how small problems become big ones. You see it everywhere, like when people skip changing their car's oil because the light just came on. Then the engine seizes up on the highway. The checkbox is there because someone, somewhere, learned the hard way.
