My daily prompt habit hit 500 straight days last Thursday and I think most people are doing prompts all wrong
Last Thursday I wrote my 500th prompt in a row. I keep them in a cheap spiral notebook, one page a day, and the streak started in my truck during a rain delay on a job site in Twin Falls. Here is the part that bugs me: I see people in this community treating prompts like lottery tickets, hunting for the one magic idea that turns into a novel, and then quitting when nothing hits. That is backwards. The value is not in any single prompt, it is in the volume. Around day 200 I stopped being precious about ideas. Around day 350 I noticed my first drafts got faster because my brain had built a bigger pile of images and situations to pull from. The 500 mark did not make me a better writer overnight, but it did prove something to me. Most people who say prompts do not work have only written about 15 of them. So what number are you actually at? Be honest, is it under 30?
