My kid's 4th grade teacher gave the class one rule for writing prompts and it flipped how I do them
My daughter is 9 and her teacher in Tucson told the class last week that the only rule for their daily prompt is they can't write about themselves. A kid named Mateo asked what they should write about then, and she said write about the person sitting next to you, or the janitor, or the lady at the bus stop. My daughter came home and wrote 3 pages from the view of our mail carrier, which is way more than she ever writes about her summer. I tried it myself on a prompt I'd been stuck on for 2 weeks and finished a full draft in about 40 minutes. I think writing as someone else takes the pressure off because you stop trying to sound smart. Has anyone else tried a prompt where you can't use yourself as the narrator?
