Question about using random word generators for story prompts, do they actually work?
I used to think those free word generator sites were a total waste of time. Last Tuesday I was stuck on a short story and tried one that gave me "rusty key, empty parking lot, 3 a.m.," and I wrote 1,200 words in one sitting. Now I'm not sure if it was the random words or just the pressure of a deadline. Do you use generators as a real tool, or do they just get in the way of your own ideas?
