Went to a coffee shop in Ann Arbor and the barista had a notebook of prompt starters on the counter
Stopped in there about 3 weeks ago while waiting on a tire rotation. The barista had a little spiral notebook with random first lines written on it, stuff like "The day the ocean went quiet" and "She found the key under a chair." People sitting there were just grabbing a line and writing. I asked her about it and she said she started it after her own writing got stuck for 4 months. What got me was that the lines were plain and short, not fancy at all. I wrote a whole page off "He kept the receipt for 8 years" and it turned into something I actually liked. Makes me wonder if a physical prompt jar works better than scrolling a list on my phone. Has anyone tried a setup like that, like a box of index cards on the desk?
