My old foreman ripped my stair layout apart in front of the whole framing gang and I still think about it
We were framing a custom place out in Hendersonville and I had my stringers all cut and stacked nice, feeling good about myself. He walked up, looked at my layout for maybe 20 seconds, and in front of six guys goes 'you crowned every one of these the wrong way, tear it out.' I was hot about it for a week, but I measured after the fact and he was right, they would have sagged within a year or two on that span. Now I chalk every stringer before it ever hits the saw and I haven't had a squeaky stair call since. Anybody else get a hard lesson on crowning from an old timer, or am I the last guy to learn this?
