Roof framing quote came back 40% higher than my last build

I got a quote from a local lumber yard in Columbus for 2x10 rafters and ridge beams, and the number was almost double what I paid on a similar house back in 2021. Spoke with the supplier and they said OSB and engineered lumber prices have jumped again this quarter because of mill shutdowns in Canada. Has anyone else seen this kind of spike and adjusted their framing plans to use trusses instead?

That "mill shutdowns in Canada" line keeps coming up everywhere. I noticed it with pressure treated deck boards last month, my guy at the supply house said the same thing. It's like every price hike gets blamed on the same thing now, whether it's lumber, siding, or even drywall. Honestly man, I built my last garage with trusses back in 2022 and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. You lose a little attic space but you gain so much time and headache, not having to cut every single rafter on site. Plus with the price spread you're seeing, trusses might actually come out cheaper once you factor in labor and waste. I'd get a quote from a truss plant before you commit to stick framing.
