Walked a $1.2M custom build in Denver and found the HVAC return in the pantry
The homeowner bragged about the finishes but cold air was blowing through the kitchen vents and the pantry door kept slamming shut because somebody put the return right next to the range, so now I ask every client for a separate mechanical closet before I even sign a contract, anyone else run into these duct placement disasters?

The "wind tunnel" bit got me laughing, but honestly it's a real pain when you're trying to sell a place and the air is fighting you. @charles_chen93 you're right about the story, that's the only upside to these duct placement disasters. I've seen way too many homes where the builder just shoved the return wherever it fit, and it always ends up being the owner's problem later.

That $1.2M got you a pantry that doubles as a wind tunnel, sounds like a solid deal. I bet the homeowner thinks the cold air is just "character" and the slamming door is a feature. At least you got a good story and a new checklist item out of it, right?
