Was dead set against using LVL beams until my framer talked me into it

Tbh I always thought they were overkill and expensive, but my guy showed me how they saved 3 days of labor and let us skip a support column in the middle of the great room. Anyone else had a builder change your mind on a material you swore you'd never use?

LVL beams are way too pricey for most projects.

Oh COME ON, you're missing the bigger picture here! Yeah LVL beams cost more upfront but they save you a TON on labor because they're straight as an arrow and don't warp or twist like regular lumber. I've had jobs where using standard joists meant two extra days of shimming and sistering stuff to get it level. That labor cost wipes out any savings real quick. Plus LVL lets you span longer distances so you can open up a floor plan without adding posts and footings. Sometimes paying more for the material is the cheaper way in the long run.
