My brother said using the same password for everything was fine if it had a capital letter and a number, and I believed him for way too long
My brother set up my first email back in high school and told me "Password123! is fine for everything, nobody is targeting you specifically." So I used a version of that same password on my bank, my Amazon, and my work login for almost 8 years. Two months ago someone got into my Amazon account from a device in Ohio and ordered $340 worth of stuff to an address in Columbus. Turns out my email and that old password had been sitting in a data breach dump since 2019 and I never knew because I reused it everywhere. Now I use a password manager and different random ones for each site, and honestly it takes me like 10 extra seconds a day. Anyone else get burned by a family member's bad advice before they knew any better?
