A supplier in Warren quoted me $0.40 per unit less and I almost missed why
Last Tuesday I was going over quotes for a small parts order at my shop off Van Dyke and a supplier in Warren came in at $0.40 per unit cheaper than my guy of 6 years. I almost just switched on the spot, but then I looked at the fine print and their price was based on 10,000 units minimum while I only move about 2,500 a month. That means I would be sitting on 4 months of inventory in my back room, which is money I can not touch and space I do not have. My old supplier charges more per piece but lets me order 500 at a time, so the cheap quote was actually the expensive one for how I run. Anybody else get burned by chasing the low unit price and forgetting what the shelf space and cash flow really cost you?
