Paid a guy $50 to park cars at my shop on Michigan Ave and he outsold my counter guy
I run a small tire shop near Michigan and Junction and hired a kid named Darnell just to park cars during the rush. After two weeks he was upselling more alignments than my guy who has been with me 6 years. Turns out customers trust the guy who walks them to their car more than the guy behind the register. Now I'm thinking about putting my best salesman outside instead of at the counter, anyone else try flipping their floor like that?
Are you sure he's really outselling your counter guy, or is Darnell just catching people at the right moment when they're already thinking about their car? Darnell is walking them to a car with worn tires and a bad alignment, so of course the upsell lands easier there than at a register where they're just trying to pay and leave. Flipping your best guy outside sounds good on paper, but then who runs the counter, and does he even want to be out in the lot all day? Maybe try splitting his time instead of a full flip.
