Spent $400 on a fancy POS system for my Detroit coffee shop and it crashed during my morning rush on a Saturday
The thing froze up right when I had 15 people in line, took 20 minutes to reboot, and I ended up writing orders on napkins with a Sharpie, has anyone else had a system fail at the worst possible time?

I think you meant it took 20 minutes to reboot, not 20 minutes to restart.

That part about writing orders on napkins with a Sharpie really hit home. I had a similar thing happen a few years back at my old shop during a holiday pop-up. The register just went blank right when a line of about twenty people were waiting for their morning coffee and pastries. I ended up grabbing a stack of those little sticky notes and a ballpoint pen, scribbling down orders like I was taking dictation. The worst part was trying to read my own handwriting later when things calmed down, some orders got mixed up and a few customers got the wrong drink. It was a real mess, but somehow we got through it without anyone walking out.
