That 200 dollar leak detector I mocked just paid for itself in one morning

I was always a soapy water and flashlight guy, figured those electronic sniffers were overpriced gimmicks. Shop foreman in Dallas convinced me to borrow his TIF unit and I found a pinhole in an air brake line behind the frame rail in about 5 minutes. Woulda taken me an hour of pulling panels and spraying everything. Anyone else had a fancy tool they hated on until it actually proved its worth? What was the job?

lol its funny how that works. once you get burned by wasting a whole morning on something dumb, suddenly the fancy tool doesnt seem so stupid anymore. same thing happened to me with a thermal camera my buddy lent me, thought it was overkill till it found a hot spot in a wall that saved me from tearing the whole drywall out.

That thermal camera thing hit home for me too. Borrowed one to hunt a water leak and it pointed straight at a valve buried behind a wall that I would've never found without tearing everything out.
