TIL a 1998 Freightliner with 1,348,217 miles came in for its first clutch job
Customer rolled into my bay in Springfield with an odometer reading 1,348,217 and swore the clutch was original. I laughed, then he pulled out a logbook going back to the day he bought it new. Every oil change, every u-joint, every set of brakes was in there in his own handwriting. The throwout bearing finally gave out, but that disc still had meat on it. Anybody else ever see a factory clutch outlive three transmissions?
That logbook going back to day one is the real story here, not the mileage. Did he ever have to fight the dealer on a warranty claim after all those years, or was the truck pretty much trouble free the whole way?
