I finally sat in on a live speedpaint session at a local convention

Went to Indie Art Expo in Portland last month and watched this artist named Maya do a full piece in 45 minutes. She explained her layer setup on the fly and I realized I was overcomplicating my whole process. Been using way fewer layers since then and my render times dropped by half. Anyone else pick up weird tricks from watching strangers work live?

Been using way fewer layers since then and my render times dropped by half" - honestly same energy lmao. I used to have like 50+ layers for a simple portrait because I was terrified of committing to anything. Then I watched a guy at a comic con do a whole painting on ONE layer with just blocky shapes and blending. I almost had an anxiety attack watching him. Tried it myself and my computer stopped sounding like a jet engine. My lineart still looks like a drunk spider drew it though so maybe I'm missing something lol.

Drunk spider" is the most accurate description of my lineart I've ever heard. It's funny how we all get scared to commit in art but then in real life we're supposed to just jump into things without overthinking. Kinda backward when you think about it.
