My hyper-realistic berry tart illustration caused a minor incident at the gallery

I created this artwork with a tablet, aiming for photorealism. At the opening night, an elderly gentleman leaned in close, apparently inspecting the brushstrokes, but then he commented on the missing whipped cream. Security had to step in, and I learned that excessive realism can sometimes baffle viewers. Your mileage may vary, but it was a lighthearted moment in my art journey.

But doesn't that interaction prove your art was successful? Hyper-realism aims to blur the line between art and reality, so when someone gets that immersed, it's a win! I've always found that when viewers engage with details, even critically, it means the work has depth. Security stepping in might seem over the top, but it shows how powerful your illustration was. That lighthearted moment probably made your piece more memorable than a quiet viewing ever could!

Why skip the whipped cream, was that intentional?

Totally blanked on the whipped cream, my bad. In my rush to finish the piece, I must have glossed over that sugary detail. Maybe my subconscious was trying to cut calories in a hyper-realistic world. Next time I'll remember the cherry on top, too.
