That one comment about moderation policies I wish I'd listened to sooner

About 6 months back a guy named Dave on a tech forum told me to always save screenshots of my posts before hitting submit on any platform. I thought he was just being paranoid. Well last week I got a permanent suspension from a popular video sharing site for something I said in a comment about a documentary they took down. The message said I violated their hate speech rules but they wouldn't show me the exact post. I had nothing saved and now I can't even appeal properly because I don't have the evidence. Dave was right and I feel pretty stupid for brushing him off. Has anyone else had to deal with a platform that won't show you the specific content they flagged?

Happens all the time in regular life too though. Think about it like this - you sign up for a gym membership and the fine print says they can change the rules anytime, then suddenly they ban you for wearing the wrong shoes and won't show you the exact rule you broke. It's not really about the evidence, it's about who holds the power. Platforms do this same thing with every disagreement, they just call it policy enforcement. Your only real leverage is not putting all your eggs in one basket, diversify where you post and keep records of anything important. Kinda like how you wouldn't leave your whole life savings in one bank account just because they promised to be fair.

Actually have to push back on this one a bit. Platforms have to enforce their rules somehow and showing people exactly what got flagged just starts arguments and fights over definitions. You agreed to their terms when you signed up, everyone does, and those terms usually say they can remove anything for any reason. The whole "show me the evidence" thing sounds fair but in practice it just gives people a chance to play word games and pretend they didn't say what they said. If you got suspended permanently it probably wasn't the first time either, most places give warnings first.
