The moment I realized I was wrong about fact checking

I used to think fact checking was just for big stories, not casual posts. Then I shared a meme about a protest crowd size that was totally off by 2000 people and got called out in a forum with 500 replies. Has anyone else had a wake up call about their own sharing habits?

I mean idk if fact checking small posts is really that important. I shared something about a local park cleanup that had the wrong date by a day and nobody cared. Seems like people only freak out if it's about something political or trending. Maybe it's just me but fact checking every little thing feels exhausting and kinda kills the vibe of casual conversation.

But is a wrong date on a park cleanup really harmless though, @sam_wood60? Because it could turn into a bigger headache if someone drives across town for it and finds nobody there. I think small lies add up, even if nobody calls them out right away. Look at the "cherry blossom bloom" posts every year - one person shares a wrong date and suddenly a hundred people show up a week early just because nobody bothered to check. It's not about killing the vibe, it's about not wasting people's time.
