Showerthought: I spent 3 months in Medellin and the wifi was better than my apartment back in Ohio
I moved to Medellin last September for a three month stay and the one thing that shocked me was not the food or the prices, it was the internet. My Airbnb in El Poblado had 300 Mbps fiber for about $25 a month, and my place back in Columbus is stuck at 50 Mbps for $70. I run video calls for work and I had zero dropouts the whole trip, which is more than I can say for my home setup during a storm. People kept warning me about power cuts and bad wifi in South America, and I have to say that advice felt at least five years out of date. The coworking spot I used near Parque Lleras was full of locals too, not just tourists, which tells you the infrastructure is real. I get why people worry, but if your whole job depends on a good connection, some of these cities are quietly beating what we have at home. Has anyone else found a city where the internet actually surprised them, or am I just lucky with one building?
