A promoter in San Salvador told me my set was too clean and it stuck with me for months
I played a small club in San Salvador about 5 months ago and the promoter pulled me aside after my set. He said my transitions were perfect but he could not feel anything, like I was afraid to mess up. At first I brushed it off because I had practiced those mixes for weeks. Then a week later I pulled up the recording and he was right, every drop landed exactly where it was supposed to and that was the whole problem. So I started playing with one turntable and a loop pedal instead of a full setup, just to force myself to leave gaps and mistakes in. My next two shows felt worse to me but the crowd moved way more. Has anyone else had someone call out your playing for being too safe?
