My mentor's 1-liner about track stems saved my mix

My mentor was right, stems at -6dB gave me room I never had before. I used to squash everything into the red and wonder why my kick vanished in car speakers. Now I export drums, bass, and synths separately before I touch any EQ. Has anyone else found that working with quieter stems fixes their mix faster than fancy plugins?
