Noticed a big clarity jump when I switched to stem-based practice
Tbh, for the last 6 months I was just layering tracks and mixing by ear, and my DJ sets sounded muddy in the club. Last Sunday in San Salvador I tried breaking a track down into stems using a tool I grabbed for $40, and the difference was insane. The low end finally sat clean, and my transitions got way tighter after just two nights of practice. Has anyone else tried stem separation for live sets, or do you stick with full tracks and EQ?

Ha, funny you mention that. Everyone talks about the mix clarity, but nobody mentions what stems do to your muscle memory. Once you start triggering that kick or vocal separately, your hands start moving differently without you thinking about it. You stop relying on the EQ crutch and start building transitions around actual song structure instead of just frequency slots. That's the real win nobody talks about. It changes how you plan a set, not just how you play it.
