Showerthought: the day I got 3 redlines in one morning taught me to doublecheck floor elevations
Last Tuesday I showed up to a strip mall job in Fresno and the architect had the slab at plus zero but the existing storefront was a half inch lower. Three revisions before noon. That was the worst morning I have had in years. Made me wonder how many of you check the actual field conditions before you lay out your base plans or do you just trust the survey marks?

Make sure you check the field conditions before you trust any floor elevation marks. That strip mall slab might have been poured to zero, but the existing storefront settled or was framed different. I always pull a tape from the door threshold to the slab edge before I commit to a base detail. Saves you from those redline mornings.
