So I finally switched from my old 0.5mm mechanical pencil to a clutch lead holder for detail work

I was working on a set of electrical schematics for a small clinic renovation, and the tiny lead kept snapping every time I pressed a bit too hard on a symbol. My boss saw me getting frustrated and tossed me his old Koh-I-Noor 2mm holder he had in his drawer. The difference was wild. I could actually feel the line weight and control the pressure without that constant fear of breaking. Anyone else make a switch like that and find it changed their whole drafting rhythm?

My drafting teacher in high school swore by those 2mm lead holders for contour drawing. He said the thicker lead forces you to think about the angle of the point for line variation, not just pressure. I tried one for a while and it totally messed up my usual fast sketching style at first, but then I got it. It makes you slower and more deliberate, which is probably perfect for schematics. That old Koh-I-Noor stuff is built like a tank too, lol.

Totally get that, it really does force a different kind of focus.
