I finally figured out my mud consistency was wrong for years

Was finishing a basement in Springfield last week, and the homeowner's kid asked why my mud looked so thick compared to a video he saw. I checked the video and realized I've been mixing my topping coat like it was taping mud for maybe five years. My all-purpose was coming out way too stiff, making feathering edges a real fight. I thinned a small batch with a bit more water and it spread like a dream. Anyone else have a moment where a simple tip from an unexpected place fixed a long-running issue?

That's the best kind of fix. A small change you can make right away that saves you a ton of work. Makes you wonder what else you've been doing the hard way.

Tell me about it, nelson.dakota. I spent years wiping down baseboards on my hands and knees before I realized a mop with a microfiber sleeve exists. Felt like a genius and an idiot at the same time.

Seriously? A kid's video fixed five years of work? That seems a bit much. I get the consistency being off, but how bad could it have been if you finished jobs with it. @tessagibson finding a mop sleeve is a clear time saver, but this feels different. A pro should notice their mud fighting them every single day. It's not like you're just wiping baseboards a new way once a week.
