The texture job at that hotel ballroom was a total before and after
Last month I did a ceiling in a ballroom near Pittsburgh, worst orange peel I've ever seen, looked like cottage cheese gone wrong. The crew before us sprayed it too thick and then tried to sand it flat, big mistake, left gouges everywhere. I spent three days just scraping and skim coating before we even got to tape. Once we put on a fresh 3/4 inch knock down and hit it with two coats of primer, you couldn't even tell it was the same room. The owner walked in and just stood there staring, finally said "that's not the same ceiling I've been staring at for years." Has anyone else had to fix a texture call that bad, or is it just me?
Sounds like you actually fixed the real problem instead of just covering it up. Three days of scraping and skim coating is brutal but that's the only way to save a ceiling that messed up. Most guys would've just sprayed more texture over the gouges and called it good.
