Rant: My furnace died at 2 AM in minus 30 weather last week

Last Tuesday my furnace just quit on me around 2 in the morning. I woke up shivering and the house was down to 12 degrees inside. I had to call an emergency HVAC guy who charged me $450 just to come out and fix a blown igniter. Has anyone else had to deal with a sudden furnace failure in the middle of winter around here?

Oh that's terrible, our washing machine died at 3am once and I nearly cried.

Nah, I'm with @claire64 on this one - a late-night appliance death is brutal when you're already half asleep and just want to throw in a load before work lol.
