Hit 500 service calls in a year and it hit me hard

I passed 500 calls last Thursday and I had to pull over and just sit. It wasn't the number that got me, it was remembering the first one from January - a simple outlet swap in a garage near St. Paul. The customer's wife came out and thanked me because her kid could finally plug in a space heater. That small thing was what pushed me into this trade after I got laid off. Now I'm at 500 and I've replaced more breakers and dimmers than I can count, but that one call still stands out. How many calls did you guys log in your first full year?

That "beast mode" thing is funny because honestly it's just showing up every day. What worked for me was keeping a small notebook in the truck. After each call I'd jot down one thing - the house color, what the customer said, something quirky. It breaks the blur of 500 calls into actual memories. Helps on the days when you're on your 12th dimmer swap and wondering why you do this.

That small thing was what pushed me into this trade" really got me. I saw a thing online recently about how electricians remember the weirdest calls not the biggest jobs. That first call you had sounds exactly like that. Its wild how a simple outlet swap can mean so much to someone but to you it becomes a whole career memory. I bet that family has no idea their garage heater was the start of something big for you. Pretty cool when you think about it though. 500 calls in a year is beast mode by the way.
