My wax pot caught fire during a Brazilian and I froze like a deer
I was in the middle of a Brazilian wax at my suite in Austin last Tuesday when I smelled something burning. Looked over and the wax pot on my back counter had a flame licking up the side because I left a paper towel too close. I grabbed my fire extinguisher from under the sink and sprayed it, but the whole room filled with white powder and the client was just laying there with wax on her legs. Had to cancel my next 3 appointments and deep clean everything. Has anyone else had a close call with their wax setup? What do you do to prevent it? Mark said he keeps a fire blanket hanging by his station now.

...and honestly the fire blanket thing sounds smart but I had a client bring in one of those little travel candles once and set it way too close to my station. I didn't notice until the flame started licking the side of a bottle of oil. Had to grab a towel and smother it while half the room stared at me. Now I keep everything on a separate cart at least 3 feet away from any heat source.

I actually read somewhere that something like 200 salon fires happen every year from wax pots alone, which is way higher than I thought. A friend of mine who does lashes told me she switched to the little wax pods that go in a warmer instead of the big pots because they heat up way less and take longer to catch stuff on fire. She also said she sets a timer on her phone every single time she turns the pot on so she never forgets it's running.
