Watching a guy in Atlanta strip a dresser with just a heat gun and a scraper

He was at a flea market, working on a big oak piece from the 1920s. I saw him get the old varnish off in one clean sheet, no chemicals at all. Do you still use chemical strippers or have you switched to heat?

Honestly, does the heat gun method work on newer finishes too?

Honestly, it's just a table. Is it really worth buying a heat gun and risking a total mess? That method is super aggressive for something new. You might just end up with a melted, sticky disaster instead of a clean strip.

Wait, what kind of finish are we talking about here, @the_mary? Like, are you trying to strip some factory poly off a new table, or is it that weird rubbery coating they put on cheap furniture now? I saw a guy totally wreck a new dresser because the finish just bubbled and melted into glue. The method totally depends on what the finish actually is.
