Why I'll never buy pre-made trail mix again
Homemade mixes let me control the salt and sugar, making long hikes much more enjoyable.

Honestly you're missing the whole point of convenience. After a ten hour workday, the last thing I want to do is measure out nuts and raisins. Ngl, grabbing a bag of the good stuff from the store lets me actually get out the door before sunset. Plus those pre-made blends often have weird chocolate or exotic fruits I'd never buy separately, which is half the fun. Tbh I've tried the homemade route and it always ends with a pantry full of bulk bin ingredients I get sick of. Sometimes paying for the mix is just paying for your time back.

Look, I get the convenience argument, but tbh the whole ritual of making my own is part of the enjoyment for me. It’s maybe ten minutes on a Sunday evening and then I’m set for the whole week with exactly what I want. Honestly, those pre-made bags always skimp on the good nuts and overload on the filler anyway. Finding that perfect salty-sweet balance myself makes the hike better, and I never get stuck with weird papaya chunks.
