I used to think houseplants were silly clutter in a tiny space
For the first couple years in my tiny home, I was so focused on bare surfaces and keeping things open that I wouldn't even consider a potted plant. Then a friend gave me a small snake plant as a moving gift and I stuck it in the corner. Having that bit of green life around actually made the place feel more calm and lived in, not more crowded. Now I've got a few small pots on shelves and it totally shifted how I see using the little space I have, what about you?

It's amazing how plants can trick the eye into seeing more space. For instance, placing a tall, narrow plant like a zz plant in a corner can add height without width. I've got a spider plant hanging near a window, and its leaves sort of frame the light (making the whole area feel bigger). Even the act of caring for them turns a plain spot into a calm corner. Your snake plant story totally echoes that shift from bare surfaces to curated comfort.

@river929, that point about plants tricking the eye is so accurate. I read once that tall plants in corners really do make a room feel taller.

Have you tried any trailing plants like pothos on a high shelf? I found that when the vines start to grow down, it really pulls your gaze up and around the room, which somehow makes the whole area feel more open. It's like the plant becomes part of the architecture instead of just sitting on a surface. That green movement adds so much life without needing any more floor space at all!
