I thought stone tools were simple until I studied them up close

Exactly what @wade_burns59 said. It happens with old stuff all the time, not just museum pieces. You see a wooden chair with the armrest worn shiny, or a stone step dipped in the middle from feet. My favorite mug has a tiny chip on the handle (right where my thumb goes). Those marks are proof someone lived with that thing, you know? Makes you stop and really look at the world different.

Hot take: My cousin's invite got pulled and now our family chat is a war zone

Yeah but the whole free speech thing misses the point sometimes. A college isn't a public street, it's their platform to lend out. If the speaker was gonna say something awful or spread hate, pulling the invite is just them taking care of their students. The family fight sucks, but maybe they should ask why the speaker got the boot in the first place, not just fight over the idea of a talk.

Our library's privacy workshop had more attendees than the yoga class

Wow, i used to think they were overkill, but hearing strangers talk about them changed my mind.

Vent: Finding stuff without plastic feels like a scavenger hunt now

Ugh, yes, what is with bananas in a plastic bag now? I mean, they have their own perfect wrapper. I tried buying loose produce but half the time the store only has those pre-cut veggies or berries in the plastic clamshell things. Idk, maybe it's just me but it feels like you have to go out of your way to avoid it, and even then you find a sticker on every single piece of fruit. I bring my own bags but it's like playing a game you can't really win.

Old spike marks on an oak taught me a new way to climb

Hold up, I gotta disagree here! Sometimes you need spikes on a live tree if it's the only way to get to a broken limb or dangerous hang up fast. I've seen situations where taking the time to set ropes would mean more damage happening while you wait. The goal is to help the tree, and if spikes let you get there now to stop worse problems, you use them. It's not about being lazy, it's about what the tree needs right then.
