inHad a stretch last November where I argued with my cousin about election integrity for four straight nights and we actually hugged it out
Read something about this actually. There was a study or article about how the key to changing someone's mind isn't facts, it's letting them feel heard first. Sounds like you two did exactly that without even knowing it. Most people just talk over each other and wonder why nothing changes. You made space for his worries without calling him dumb, and he did the same for you. That's more than most political conversations ever manage.

inWhy does nobody talk about how invasive English ivy really is
I had a 60 year old live oak die from English ivy growing up its trunk. The ivy was so thick it kept water against the bark and rotted the cambium layer. That tree was the centerpiece of my yard and it took three years for it to fully die after we noticed the ivy. Now I go after any ivy near my trees with clippers and a shovel.

inAppreciation post for the old guy at my local shop who showed me how to bag comics properly
oh yeah that was the game changer right there! my buddy showed me that same trick and i felt so dumb for not figuring it out sooner. once you flip it inward everything just clicks into place way smoother.

inUsed to think RG6 was all the same until I lost a Saturday to that cheap stuff
Yeah definitely had that same "you get what you pay for" moment with cable.

inTried both no-dig and tilled garden beds this spring in my Edmonton backyard. No-dig won by a mile.
@aaron896 pretty much nailed it. I heard a podcast with a soil scientist from U of A who said tilling actually destroys the fungal networks that help plants get water and nutrients. That tracks with what I saw in my beds. The no-dig soil just felt spongier and held together better after our July downpours. Aaron's right that doing less work sometimes gives better results, but I think people just assume they have to till because that's what their grandpa did. My back sure appreciates not having to rent a tiller every spring.
