inUpdate: How a stripped bolt changed my approach to bike assembly
A torque wrench is just another tool that adds cost and complexity for most jobs. Plenty of mechanics have done perfect work for decades using feel and experience with a regular wrench. Over tightening often comes from rushing, not the tool itself. For a lot of general work, the extra precision isn't worth the hassle or the money. You can get very consistent results by just being careful and paying attention.

inMy entire gallery disappeared from DeviantArt last Tuesday
Ugh, maybe they're scrubbing old content before a site sale or merger.

inI used to skip silver skin trimming until a chewy steak proved me wrong
Totally. That membrane makes a huge difference, you can really taste it. I learned that the hard way too, back when I thought I could skip it.

inI finally fixed my runny pie filling after a holiday disaster
Try pressing your drained puree in a colander with a paper towel or two. It soaks up way more moisture than you think is even in there. I went from soupy pies to almost too dense a filling one year because I got overzealous with the pressing. Let it sit for ten minutes while you prep the spices and crust. The extra water that cooks out is what really wrecks the setting, so removing it early is the fix. Cooking the mix on the stove for a minute to evaporate a bit more liquid can help too, but it's easy to overdo.

inA surprise at the checkout made me rethink how I buy food
While sales can be tempting, they often push you toward items you didn't plan to buy. That random ingredient might sit in your cupboard unused, which is just wasted money. A fixed meal plan using regular staples, purchased in larger amounts during good deals, offers more reliable savings. Paying full price for fresh vegetables you know you'll eat is better than discounted food that goes bad.
