inThe week we had to tear down and rebuild a 30-foot garden wall because the client's landscaper used the wrong mortar mix
My uncle told me a story about a crew using the wrong mortar mix for brick veneer on a whole house side. They had to chip it all off and start over, a total waste of two weeks. That's why his rule is to physically open the bag and read the type code before it ever touches water. You can't just trust the label on the pallet because sometimes bags get moved around. It seems like overkill until you see how expensive a simple mix-up can get.

inFinally stopped fighting my old CAD software's weird hatch settings
Oh man, custom hatches are a lifesaver. For linetypes, I just keep a master drawing file with all my custom ones and insert it into new projects.

inPro tip: A guy at a campsite in the Adirondacks showed me how to fix a busted tent pole with a soda can.
Saw a buddy use a pine branch and zip ties once.

inGot my comment removed from a city planning meeting for pointing out a basic math error in their budget slide.
Wait, they actually said the "spirit of the project" was more important than the numbers? That's wild. It's a budget meeting, the numbers are the whole point. Cutting you off for basic math feels like they just don't want to be questioned. How are you supposed to trust a plan that doesn't even add up?

inHeard a binder at the Portland show say 'real bookbinding died with hand tools' and I think that's wrong
That take misses how modern tools actually let more people try bookbinding. A cheap bone folder and some PVA glue can start a real craft. The gatekeeping over tools just pushes new folks away from learning the basics.
