Spent $35 on silicone air fryer liners and they caught fire on my second use

I bought a pack of those perforated silicone liners from Amazon thinking theyd make cleanup easier. Worked fine the first time with some frozen fries. Second time I made chicken thighs at 400 degrees and one of them started smoking and warping bad. I pulled it out and there was a melted spot right where the grease pooled. So I trashed the whole set and went back to just using parchment paper with holes punched in it. Has anyone else had problems with these silicone liners or did I just get a cheap brand?

Oh man, that's rough but honestly not surprising. In my experience those silicone liners are hit or miss depending on the brand and thickness. I've had a pair that lasted for months and then another set that started smelling like burning plastic on the third use. Your mileage may vary. I switched to just using foil with holes poked in it for most of my air fryer stuff and it works fine. Take this with a grain of salt but I think a lot of those Amazon brands are just cheap knockoffs with poor quality control.

Wait, hold on, I've gotta push back on that a little. In my experience, the silicone liners are actually great if you get a decent brand with a higher heat rating, like the ones rated for 500 degrees. I've been using the same two for over a year now and they've never smelled or melted on me, even with crispy chicken at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Foil with holes works okay, but I've had it tear and get sucked up into the fan more than once, which is a bigger pain than any liner issue I've dealt with. Just my two cents, but I think the cheap ones get a bad rap because people don't check the temp limit before buying.
