I looked up how two countries handle VPNs and the difference is huge

I was reading about internet rules in Russia versus Singapore. In Russia, they block a ton of sites and try to stop people from using VPNs to get around it. Singapore has some blocks too, but they mostly just block a few specific things like porn sites and don't really go after VPN users. The difference is that in Russia, the whole approach is about controlling what people see, which makes free speech a lot harder. In Singapore, you can still talk about most things online, even if you disagree with the government. It made me see how the way a country tries to enforce a ban can be more important than the ban itself. Has anyone else found examples where the enforcement method was the real problem?

Got banned from a local hiking group for posting a picture of a shortcut trail

I found a quicker way up to the ridge at Eagle Rock last weekend and shared it. The mods said it was 'encouraging unsafe practices' and booted me immediately. Is sharing a trail find really that bad, or are groups just too strict now?

Just realized I spent 3 hours chasing a vibration that was just a loose hose clamp

The whole dredge was shaking on the Ohio River job, thought it was a bearing or the pump. Took apart the suction line guard for nothing. Anyone else have a simple fix that wasted a ton of your day?

A regular told me my fades felt 'scratchy' on the back of his neck

He said it felt like I was using a dull blade on the final pass. I checked my trimmer and realized I was using a 0000 blade for everything, even the clean-up. I switched to a fresh 000 blade just for that final neckline pass and the difference was instant. Anyone have a better blade combo for a smooth finish on sensitive skin?

My painter buddy said 'fire your worst client' and I can't stop thinking about it

We were grabbing a beer after a job in Tacoma last week and he told me he dropped a client who was always late on payments and changed the scope constantly. He said the mental energy spent on that one account was holding back three good ones. I've always pushed through with every client, thinking revenue is revenue. Has anyone actually done this and seen their business get better?

Warning: I chose to keep using AI detection tools even after a false positive flagged my own work.

Everyone says to ditch them after one mistake, but I kept using Glaze for a month. It caught three real slop posts I would have missed. Has anyone else stuck with a tool that messed up for them?

I finally got my firebox door to seal right after 8 hours of fiddling

The gap was only a quarter inch, but it took a whole Saturday of bending the hinge and packing the gasket with high-temp rope. Anyone else have a better fix for a warped offset door?

Got a permanent ban from a big social app for a comment about a local protest

I was talking with my friend Jake last week about the protest that shut down Main Street. He said, 'They just want to be heard, even if it's loud.' I posted something similar online, saying the disruption was annoying but maybe the point. Next morning, my account was gone for 'inciting violence.' It was just a talk about free speech. Has anyone else been banned for just discussing a public event?

Shoutout to the guy in Phoenix who got his account back after a false bot flag

I saw a post last week about a user in Phoenix who got flagged as a bot on a major platform just for posting too many links to local news articles in one day. Everyone in the comments was saying the platform was right to crack down on spam, but I think they got it wrong. He was just trying to share info about a city council vote, and the automated system had no nuance. It took him 3 days of appeals to get his account reinstated. Has anyone else had a legit post get caught in an anti-spam filter like that?

Question about cooking dried beans from scratch vs. canned

I made chili two ways this week, one with canned beans and one with a bag of dried pintos I soaked overnight. The dried beans cost 89 cents and made way more food, plus the texture was way better, not mushy at all. Has anyone else found a big difference with certain types of beans?
