Lead mechanic swore by thread tape on B-nuts, my torque wrench says otherwise
Old timer at the hangar in Tulsa told me to wrap the B-nut threads with Teflon tape before torquing, said it's how they always did it. Put it on a hydraulic line last Tuesday and the fitting read 20 ft-lbs over spec on my clicker, so I stripped the nut and had to chase the threads on an A320. Anyone else run into bogus 'tricks' passed down that just cause headaches?

Reminds me of a guy at my old shop who insisted on using a pipe wrench to crack open fuel filters. Swore it was faster than the strap wrench. Worked fine until it slipped and he punched a hole in his hand on the filter housing. Three stitches and a lot of paperwork later, we all learned why the manual says what it says. Sometime the old school way is just old, not school.
