A client's simple question made me rewire my whole approach to keypad placement

I was finishing a job in a new house, putting the main keypad by the front door like always. The owner asked, 'Why there? I come in through the garage 90% of the time.' I realized I was just doing it the way I was taught. Now I always ask about their daily routine first. I've moved keypads to mudrooms, garage entries, and even master bedrooms based on that chat. Anyone else changed a standard practice after a customer pointed it out?

Oh man, that hits home. I used to install bathroom fans and always put the switch right inside the door. Then a client with bad arthritis asked if we could put it by the light switch instead, so she didn't have to reach over the sink. Felt like such a dummy for not seeing it before. Now I ask that question on every single job. Makes you realize how much we just run on autopilot sometimes.

Damn, that's why universal design matters - it helps everyone without us even realizing.
