inTIL my co-worker was feeding me fake CIA leaks for 6 months
Oh man, that's the thing though. It's like this weird tightrope we all have to walk now where nobody can just take a joke or a little pushback without it turning into a whole thing. I notice it everywhere, not just at work but with neighbors and even family sometimes. Everyone's so worried about being polite they end up having these boring, fake conversations where nobody says what they actually think. Kinda makes you wonder if we've traded honest connection for just trying to not rock the boat.

inI bought a $400 'eco' gadget that turned out to be greenwashing
People are way too quick to call everything greenwashing. That composter probably did what it said, it dried out food scraps really fast. The problem is people think compost from a machine is the same as compost from a pile outside, and it's not. Same with the bamboo toothbrush thing, you just gotta look closer at what you're buying instead of blaming the company for your own mistake. Not saying some products aren't straight up lying, but a lot of this stuff works fine if you understand what it actually does.

inGot told my field notes were 'unreadable' by a senior dig lead in Crete... started using a simple grid system the next day
Grid systems just kill all the natural flow of field notes.

inAppreciation post: The time my compost bin taught me a lesson
Funny, I actually had the opposite experience with my compost bin last winter - the freeze seemed to help break things down more slowly and evenly once it thawed out in the spring. @the_jenny, maybe your problem was too much wet material and not enough browns mixed in before the cold hit. I just dumped everything in one pile and let nature take its course, and it worked fine without any special layering or extra buckets.

inMy heat pump gave up the ghost during that cold snap last week
Went through that myself last winter.
