Ran silicone on a door contact gap and it gummed up the plunger in 3 days
Had a finicky recessed contact on a metal door frame last Tuesday where the gap was just a hair too wide, so I filled it with clear silicone to shim it tight instead of pulling a new contact. Two days later the plunger stuck open, the panel showed the zone faulted all night, and the customer called me at 6am thinking someone broke in. I dug the silicone out with a pick, it came out in one gross rubbery worm with dust stuck to it, and I felt like a rookie. Real fix was a 3/8 inch spacer behind the magnet, took me 4 minutes. What are you all using for sloppy gaps that won't turn into a gooey mess later?
