Why does nobody talk about the Denali park road landslide closing 43 miles of the only road in?
I was supposed to drive out to Wonder Lake last Saturday for the first time in years, but got stopped cold at the Pretty Rocks closure like everyone else. Ended up spending the day in Healy talking to a shuttle driver who said the one lane bypass has been pushing tourist trips back by hours all summer. Has anyone here actually made it past the slide this year, or is it still just the first 43 miles?
Waited THREE hours at the slide last month just to go like 20 feet. That one lane bypass is no joke, they flag you through in tiny groups and you just sit there watching the mountain. Pretty Rocks has been sliding for years and they still haven't fixed it for real.
Three hours is rough man. Reminds me of this time I got stuck behind a moose jam near the entrance for like two hours, just a whole line of cars watching one moose and her calf mosey along the road. People were getting out and taking pics like it was a zoo, meanwhile I'm just dying cause I had a cooler full of melting ice. By the time we rolled through the calf had laid down in the road and nobody was moving it. You can't fix a moose, but you'd think they could at least figure out the Pretty Rocks deal after all these years.
