I swore I'd never get a swamp cooler here, then our AC died at 7pm on a 98 degree night in the Heights
Last Tuesday our AC just quit around 7pm and the house was up to 88 by the time I gave up and started calling people. Every AC company in town quoted me $4,000 or more for a new unit, and one guy said he could get to us in five days, which did not help me that night at all. My neighbor across the street saw me sitting outside sweating and told me he runs a swamp cooler in his place all summer and his bill stays under $90. I had always thought swamp coolers were useless here, but I caved and bought a used one for $150, and our bedroom was cool by 9pm. Now I am second guessing the $6,000 I was about to spend, so if you have run one of these through a whole summer in Albuquerque, did the monsoon weeks make you regret it?
