My $30 moisture meter lied to me about a leak behind the drywall
I spent three weekends trying to find a musty smell in my guest bathroom before I finally cut a hole in the ceiling and spotted the pipe drip. Turns out the cheap moisture meter from the big box store only reads surface moisture, not what's a quarter inch deep. Has anyone else had a hidden leak take way longer to track down than they expected?

And that's the thing, isn't it? We're all walking around with these cheap tools and half-baked solutions for problems that are way more complicated than they seem. Like my phone's "battery health" reading that says 85 percent but my phone dies at 30 percent battery every afternoon. Or the thermometer in my fridge that insists it's 38 degrees but my milk goes sour three days early. So we lean on these little gadgets and numbers to feel in control of our homes and lives, but they're just scratching the surface of what's really going on. Makes you wonder how many other problems we're just skimming the top of without ever really fixing them, huh?
