My water heater let go at 2am and flooded half my garage, $1,800 later I'm done with tank heaters
Woke up last Tuesday around 2am to that awful hissing sound and walked into an inch of water in my garage off Eubank. The 12 year old tank finally rusted through at the bottom and dumped everywhere, ruining a bunch of boxes and my kids' old bikes. I called a plumber at 6am and he quoted me $1,800 for a new tank installed or $3,200 for a tankless, so I just went with the cheap option to stop the bleeding. Honestly though, I wish I had just done the tankless swap years ago instead of waiting for this mess. Anyone else in the heights deal with a tank busting on them, and did you go tankless or stick with the same old setup?
Yikes, 2am flooding is my worst nightmare. I read somewhere that tank heaters usually only last 8 to 12 years, so you got about as much as you could out of that one before it let go. A guy I know up in the heights said his busted while he was at work and did way more damage than yours. At least you caught it early, even if 1800 bucks still stings.
