I finally said it at our local anime meetup: I think Studio Ghibli movies are overrated.

My buddy Dave tried to watch a few Ghibli films last year. He said "My Neighbor Totoro" put him to sleep because nothing really happens. Even "Princess Mononoke", which has more action, felt too long and preachy to him. He ended up liking some modern anime more because the stories move faster. Now he just shrugs when people talk about Ghibli, says it's not for everyone.

Ghibli stuff is pretty but boring. Totoro is just kids waiting for a bus. Mononoke drags on forever with its message. Modern shows like Demon Slayer have better pacing. The old studio magic feels gone. Prefer stuff that actually holds my attention.
